Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand has launched a procurement to consolidate more than 12,000 public health sector servers into a secure, resilient hybrid cloud model spanning public cloud, private cloud and data centres. It is seeking multiple suppliers for a Cloud Implementer Panel to deliver migration, modernisation and infrastructure optimisation services, with optional managed services and an emphasis on security, resilience and regulatory compliance.
This consolidation is expected to accelerate adoption of analytics and AI across clinical imaging, population health and decision support by centralising datasets and providing scalable compute, including potential GPU‑enabled platforms. Supplier selection, interoperability with electronic health records, data governance, and edge integration will shape how safely and quickly Te Whatu Ora can deploy AI-driven services; the initiative also highlights data sovereignty, privacy and vendor‑lockin risks regulators and clinicians must manage.
