CISA has issued an urgent advisory urging patching of two open-source PHP flaws that let unauthenticated attackers exploit memory-handling errors and perform remote code execution, potentially granting full control of vulnerable web servers. In healthcare, many patient portals, EHR integrations, and AI-enabled care apps run atop PHP-based web services, so successful exploitation could disrupt clinical workflows, expose sensitive health data, and compromise telehealth platforms.
The risk is especially acute for healthcare providers because attackers often move quickly on threat intel, and legacy or unsupported systems may be offline for patching or prototyping. Unpatched servers could empower AI-assisted tools, decision-support services, or appointment systems to be manipulated, undermining patient safety and privacy. Operators are urged to patch immediately, isolate legacy systems, and monitor for indicators of compromise while updating defenses around AI workloads that rely on these web services.
