Hospital logistics have grown increasingly complex as health systems deploy a range of technologies and resources that often operate in silos. Fragmented workflows across supply chains, equipment, and patient flow impede efficiency and patient care. The article argues that the challenge is not merely automating individual tasks, but intelligently orchestrating people, devices, and software across the hospital ecosystem.
Physical AI—embodied systems that interact with the real world—seeks to unify disparate operations through real-time visibility, predictive scheduling, and dynamic resource allocation. By coordinating assets such as beds, devices, staff, and transportation, these solutions could reduce delays, cut waste, and improve safety and outcomes in care delivery. Adoption, however, faces interoperability hurdles, data governance needs, and the necessity for rigorous safety and ROI validation in busy clinical environments.
