New Zealand’s Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand is nearing approval for a radiology modernisation programme designed to consolidate imaging workflows across the system. The department issued an advance notice to suppliers for the potential procurement of four capabilities to establish an integrated radiology system, with an estimated value between NZ$50 million and NZ$100 million. The four components are an enterprise imaging integration layer, an integrated reporting environment, an imaging AI orchestrator and a national image archive.
Together, the package positions AI at the core of radiology operations, enabling automated image analysis, streamlined reporting and centralized archiving across facilities. The move signals a shift toward interoperable, AI-enabled imaging infrastructure aimed at improving efficiency, consistency and access to radiology insights across the health service.
