The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has named Abridge AI to compete as an ambient AI vendor under a nationwide enterprise contract that would place ambient scribe technology in VA medical centers. The multi-award agreement carries a ceiling of $775.72 million over five years, allocated across all eligible vendors to win task orders. The arrangement supports VA modernization goals and broadens access to ambient AI across the system.
Industry observers say the move accelerates the department’s planned nationwide expansion of ambient AI to assist clinicians with real-time documentation, note generation, and care coordination. By scaling ambient scribe tools, VA aims to reduce clinician administrative burden, improve consistency of records, and streamline workflows across facilities. Abridge will compete for individual deployments under the contract, contributing to pilots and gradual rollout that followed earlier trials designed to test accuracy and integration with VA health IT systems.
