Epic has rolled out its Care Everywhere Diagnostic Image Exchange, a standards-based platform now broadly available. The system aims to relieve health systems from manual image retrieval and spare millions of patients from carrying CDs of their scans between visits, accelerating access to prior studies and supporting continuity of care.
By adopting open interoperability standards, the new exchange helps feed AI-powered imaging workflows with readily accessible diagnostic images from disparate systems. Clinicians benefit from faster triage, radiology collaboration, and reduced administrative overhead, while researchers and vendors gain more reliable data for machine learning and quality assurance. Until now, sharing of diagnostic images has been pretty limited – it primarily uses proprietary connections rather than open standards, said Matt Doyle, Epic’s director of interoperability.
