Operation Vital Signs convened more than 500 health sector stakeholders in the first nationwide tabletop exercise to stress-test cyber resilience across hospitals, payers, device makers, labs and health IT. Co‑sponsored by Health-ISAC and the Health Sector Coordinating Council Cybersecurity Working Group, the virtual event simulated major disruptions to clinical systems and supply chains to evaluate incident response, cross-organizational coordination and continuity planning.
The exercise underscored emergent AI-related risks as health organizations increasingly rely on machine learning for diagnostics, decision support and operations automation. Scenarios emphasized threats to model integrity, training-data availability and vendor-hosted analytics, prompting teams to rehearse fallbacks such as manual workflows, model validation checks and vendor coordination. Organizers recommend embedding AI governance and supply-chain safeguards into incident playbooks and recurring sector-wide exercises to reduce systemic risk.
