Researchers in Singapore and Hong Kong have launched a strategic partnership to test an AI-enabled community approach to managing knee osteoarthritis. The Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University formalized the collaboration through a memorandum of understanding between NUS Medicine’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and PolyU’s Department of Biomedical Engineering. The joint effort will combine clinical orthopaedic expertise with engineering and AI research to develop and validate tools for community screening, monitoring and management of musculoskeletal conditions.
The programme aims to pilot AI models and sensor or imaging-enabled workflows in community settings to improve early detection, risk stratification and personalized care pathways for knee osteoarthritis, while reducing strain on specialist services. The partners intend to publish findings that could inform scalable, technology-driven primary care interventions across Asia and support evidence-based deployment of AI in musculoskeletal health.
