The Australian Digital Health Agency has published a National Framework for Digital Health Standards to coordinate implementation of digital health policies across governments, health services, partners and industry. The framework, CEO Amanda Cattermole said, offers clear, practical guidance that aligns governance, standards development and implementation, and sets national expectations for interoperability, data quality and security to support consistent digital health deployments.
Although not AI-specific, the framework creates foundational conditions for safe AI adoption in healthcare by standardizing data formats, provenance and consent mechanisms, improving training-data quality and enabling secure data exchange. It also signals regulatory harmonization for algorithm validation, clinical decision-support integration and procurement practices, helping reduce risk and accelerate innovation across jurisdictions. Providers, vendors and regulators can use the framework to benchmark AI readiness and governance in clinical systems.
