Singapore’s SingHealth has signed a two‑year memorandum of understanding with Bhutan’s Royal University of Bhutan Gyalpozhing College of Information Technology (GCIT) to co-develop an AI‑assisted chest X‑ray model for rural hospitals. The partnership, announced by Minister of State for Health and Communications and Information Rahayu Mahzam at a government-hosted AI conference in Singapore, aims to create diagnostic support for lung conditions and strengthen local technical and clinical capacity.
The collaboration illustrates growing regional momentum to deploy AI where imaging services are scarce, offering potential to speed triage and reduce diagnostic delays. Developers will need to prioritize local data validation, interoperability, clinician training and governance to ensure safety and equity. If successfully implemented, the model could extend specialist-level radiology support into Bhutanese rural clinics and serve as a template for public‑private AI partnerships in low‑resource health systems.
