Tribal and Native healthcare leaders say interoperability is essential to close care gaps across remote clinics, urban Indian health programs and federal hospitals. Fragmented EHRs, inconsistent connectivity and limited tech staffing hinder care coordination and public health reporting. Standard APIs, data exchange frameworks and funding for shared health information exchanges are presented as foundational to modernizing services.
Speakers highlighted AI’s potential to leverage interoperable data for population health analytics, predictive risk scoring and telehealth triage, enabling targeted interventions for chronic disease and behavioral health. However, they warned AI systems require representative data, tribal data governance, consent controls and bias mitigation to protect sovereignty and privacy. Investment in local workforce training and culturally aligned algorithms was urged.
